Developers are always looking for ways to optimize their productivity. The latest addition that I did to improve mine was to create aliases for the most common commands that I use every day. I have entirely pivoted to using the new Windows Terminal for my day-to-day command line activities. Windows Terminal is a modern, open-source application that aggregates multiple terminals and shells such as command prompt, PowerShell, and WSL and adds features such tab support, rich text, configuration, and visual themes to them.

Visual Studio 2017 is currently the best IDE that is in-line with the Microsoft’s strategy of embracing non Microsoft platforms and operating systems. I am a web developer, therefore, following is my outline of the most compelling features of Visual Studio 2017. Setup Experience Visual Studio no longer asks you to select options from a long list of checkboxes. It presents a more easy to comprehend list of workloads that are segregated by categories.

My long hiatus is over. I have completed my move to Sydney, AU and I have started working with Readify as a Consultant. Sydney is a beautiful city and is endowed with attractions that I am yet to explore. Time is precious and no one wants to do mundane stuff. Using productivity tools, we can get mundane stuff done fast so that we can spend more time doing finer things such as watching more cat videos.

I was lucky (and fast… and skilled…) enough to claim a Jabra Speak 410 Speakerphone as my AzureCon challenge bounty. There were some challenges related to shipping and all the prizes got dispatched pretty late, but Microsoft resolved the impediments and was very communicative throughout the shipping process and my unit arrived today so no rants from me on this. My only concern is that I had to pay a USD 40 duty on the import about which I am not sure whether I was liable to or whether it could have been avoided.
